At least 21 people have died and 30 others are missing after a landslide on Saturday in Kenya’s western Rift Valley region, where heavy rains have battered the area for days during the country’s ongoing short rains season.

Hellen Obiri of Kenya broke the women's course record by more than two minutes in winning her second New York City Marathon title, while Benson Kipruto held off Alexander Mutiso Munyao in a sprint to the finish line to take the men's race.

The New York City Marathon made history on Sunday with a course record set in the women’s competition and the closest race ever on the men’s side, which was decided by a fraction of a second.
