Nancy Pelosi's retirement signals the last in a series of Capitol Hill departures for powerful California politicians, leaving the state bereft of the influence it once enjoyed.

After nearly 40 years representing San Francisco in U.S. Congress, Nancy Pelosi is retiring. On Thursday, the 85-year-old speaker emerita released a heartfelt video aimed at her constituents announcing the decision.
According to Fox News’ Peter Doocy, Trump described Pelosi’s retirement as a “great thing” for America, going on to call her “evil,” “corrupt” and a “highly overrated politician.” The president also pointed to how the House voted to impeach him twice under her leadership.
Now 85, Pelosi is retiring as her party reckons with a widening generational gap, pitting Democratic veterans against political newcomers. If Pelosi had sought reelection, she likely would have been subject to a “long and nasty campaign” playing into that generational divide,
