As the claims pile up, Metro managers are rethinking bus driver training. Metro has a six-week training program for new drivers, considered an average length by the industry, according to Hull.

Metro has finalized the installation of barriers on its entire bus fleet that fully enclose drivers for their protection -- a move prompted by a rise in assaults against bus operators.

Metro officials said the effort was another step in a campaign to prepare Metro's 1.1 million daily rail and bus riders for catastrophe.
