Named for its Native founders, Canarsie grew from a fishing village to a beach resort, then into a suburban, diverse Brooklyn neighborhood.

Officials, local organizations and residents rallied at Canarsie pier Sunday calling on the city to bring NYC Ferry service to Canarsie.

Event organizers said historical records from the Brooklyn Public Library say there was a ferry service to Canarsie Pier early in the 1900s.
