The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says it will distribute partial SNAP benefits to recipients starting Saturday.

Saturday, Nov. 8. This is in response to the federal government reducing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, to about 50% of recipients' payments for November during the shutdown.

State representatives joined volunteers to prepare Pop-Tarts and non-perishables as calls for help have nearly doubled at local food banks.

The Trump administration said it would make partial payments for SNAP though when recipients would see benefits and how much remains unclear.
