Health officials say Israeli strikes in Gaza City overnight and at a refugee camp have killed more than 40 people, including 19 women and children.

A third was expected to join them.In images taken from the Israel-Gaza border, plumes of smoke could be seen rising above the city, which is the largest in the Gaza Strip. Large explosions were reported across the city.

The Trump administration has told Congress it plans to sell nearly $6 billion in additional weapons to Israel, which is under growing international condemnation over the war in the Gaza Strip.
